Save Money by Finding Vacation Deals Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few years, you’ve probably seen the PriceLine.com commercials with William Shatner of ‘Star Trek’ fame. He is advertising a website that helps you find airline, hotel, and other vacation deals. This is one of the many websites out there helping people find discounts and making a vacation go from a dream to a reality. With the right amount of research, you can find package deals to just about any place you want to visit. Some of them may include spending money or meal vouchers, and some of them may not. Some vacation deals can only be found through travel agents. The first thing you need to do is decide where you want to go and how long you intend to stay. How much are you willing to spend? How much spending money are you going to have? Are you bringing the kids? All of these things need to be considered prior to looking for any vacation deals that may be floating around out there. The next step is to contact your local travel agent and see what kind of vacation deals they can offer you. Get a quote print out to use as reference and then come home and start surfing. Websites like PriceLine.com and Expedia.com offer greatly discounted flights, rental cars, and hotels. Unfortunately, these come with a non-monetary price. For example, say you want to fly from New York to Las Vegas. While your travel agent was able to quote you a decent airfare, roundtrip, with no stops, one of these discount websites might be able to offer you an even better rate, maybe half the price. But, you have a three hour layover in Dallas, Texas, you’re flying coach in the middle seat, and the flight leaves at three in the morning. Get the idea? Some of these discounted sites also have blackout dates, dates where no matter what day you key in as your leaving point and what day you key in to fly back, there is nothing available or you can’t schedule it. Occasionally, you’ll luck out and be able to find the perfect deal. You are also going to want to make sure there are no hidden fees with the perfect deal that you’ve found. If there are, you might as well book with your travel agent because the price between the two could very well be the same. It is also a good idea to check with your destination to see what type of deals they may be offering. Places like Disneyland and certain hotels in Las Vegas will have complimentary rooms or attraction tickets or discounted rates. There are even places that will give you a place to stay for a week simply by going and listening to a presentation. These are not always advisable simply because you could get pressured into joining or buying something. If you have a strong will and can’t be pressured then have at it. The best way to find vacation deals are to cost compare all of your options. You may even be able to surprise yourself and book a good, cheap flight on Orbitz.com, high-class, but inexpensive lodgings on Expedia.com, and some great food vouchers on PriceLine.com. |
